After a public falling out and exchanging insults, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has made it clear that he won’t be serving as Donald Trump’s running mate in the 2024 election. During an interview on Newsmax, Christie was asked about the possibility and firmly replied with a “No.” He further emphasized his stance in a tweet, stating, “Would I consider Trump’s VP? No way in hell — just ask Mike Pence.” Christie defended Pence during the interview, criticizing Trump for the treatment his former vice president received from him and his followers after the January 6th Capitol attack.

Despite Trump holding a significant lead in the latest election poll with 55% of Republican support compared to Christie’s 2%, the former New Jersey governor continues to criticize Trump. Christie has $1.6 million in remaining campaign funds after the second quarter, but his chances against Trump are low. He was one of the few presidential candidates who spoke out against Trump regarding the Capitol attack, accusing Trump of undermining democracy and provoking the events on January 6th.

The rejection of being Trump’s vice president came shortly after Ron DeSantis, the Florida governor, also declined the role, stating, “I’m not a number two guy.” While Trump has not yet discussed his candidates for vice president in 2024, some members of the Republican party, like Marjorie Taylor Greene, have expressed their interest in the position.
